Stranded PIA flights reach Britain
KARACHI: One phase of flight disruptions on European routes caused by freezing weather appears to have ended as all UK-bound PIA flights, which were diverted and remained stranded at different airports, landed in Britain, although not necessarily at the destined airports.
At least two flights to London from Islamabad were cancelled on Monday and Tuesday because of weather conditions, a PIA spokesman said.
He told this reporter that a couple of planes had left the UK but some others would remain there before their return was scheduled subject to weather conditions.
Two PIA planes which had been stranded in Paris and Cologne, Germany, for a couple of days landed at the Stansted airport in London. A flight stuck in Istanbul also arrived in the UK.
The spokesman said one flight was scheduled to take off on Tuesday and arrive in Pakistan on Wednesday, depending on the weather. He said the flight operation was improving but was yet to become normal.
